On June 23rd and 24th Blessed Sacrament’s 8844 Council joined up with several other east river councils to help deliver 100 beds to kids on the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Martin, SD.

Members of our local council James Schaefers, Daryl Blakeman, Richard Alley, and Mike Thomson (and his son Gabe Thomson).
Council 8844 delivered 20 beds in Martin, 8 beds in Red Shirt, and assisted in delivering 6 beds in Oglala.
Each bed included a frame, mattress, bed sheets, pillow, comforter, quilt, and books.
Most kids were previously sleeping on the floor.
At the end of the first day, we visited Black Elk’s grave near Wounded Knee.Black Elk is on the journey to sainthood. In addition, the following day we were able to meet George Looks Twice, who is Black Elk’s grandson.
